Iter Fusion Energy
Exciting, but a little scary! The ITER project might turn me into a NIMBY.
ITER will be the 1st Fusion Device to run as an electrical generating station. It has a good chance to be built in Canada, just outside Toronto (my home). It will be in an area that already has 2 nuclear power plants, a fuel fabrication facility, and a uranium processing facility.
TheITER device is an experimental fusion reactor based on the 'tokamak' concept. It's engineered as a toroidal (doughnut-shaped) magnetic vessel in which to create and maintain the conditions for controlled fusion reactions.
It all sounds great, and there's no way I can't support such a scientific and technological advancement. I just hope the downsides are minimal.
